History as Reincarnation

The Buddhists called it samsara — the wheel that turns and turns and turns. Most translators reach immediately for rebirth, and then most readers either accept reincarnation as literal fact or quietly file the entire concept away as mythology.

There is a third reading.

The Pattern, Not the Person

What if samsara is not primarily about the soul of one person traveling across lifetimes, but about the pattern itself repeating wherever the conditions allow?

A person who never examines their fear repeats their fear. A civilization that never examines its tribal violence repeats its tribal violence. The face changes. The flag changes. The pattern does not.

History does not literally rhyme. It recurs because the underlying attachments are not yet seen.

Why Awakening Is Political

If samsara works this way, then the spiritual and the historical are not separate categories. To see one’s own compulsions clearly is, in some small way, to interrupt the wheel — to let it skip a single tooth on its gear.

This is not a promise of utopia.

It is only a refusal to be the next iteration without noticing.
